Rectangular Pinata Instructions

Supplies you will need for this project.
  • empty cereal box
  • packaging tape
  • construction paper or card stock
  • printer or computer die-cutter machine ex.(Gazelle, Cricut Machine, Silhouette)
  • black marker
  • rolls of party tissue paper
  • black electrical tape
  • wire or strong string
  • empty tissue roll (cut into two pieces)
This pinata was made from a used cereal box. Simply used the facial features by printing it out of a coloring page and then cutting the face outline.
I used an svg. formatting software called Inkscape which is free download on a personal computer. I then imported the cartoon from a jpg. to an svg. format by doing a pixel trace. Next I took the most prominent features from the cartoon trace and printed it on my printer, however you can bypass printing and just cut the trace out directly using a computerized die-cutting machine. If you would like to have further instructions on making this simple pinata, click on this link.

1. Start with an empty cereal box. Reinforce both ends of the box with packaging tape. Punch holes on either side of the top of the box, this is to loop the cord or string through.
2. Create a slit for candy entry near the top of the head. Use yellow construction paper and wrap around cereal box this will strengthen the card board box and also serve as coloring surface to glue crape paper on. Keep the candy entry open for stuffing later.
3. Take out crap paper and roll several length out and wrap around hand until desired length is met. Take scissors and cut slits midway on the bottom half of the paper to create a ruffled effect, remember go only half way.
4. Then glue crape paper starting at top of box and glue and wrap around the box until its covered the entore construction paper.
5. Next cut out paper for pants area and wrap on bottom of box. Take napkin roll and cut it in half. The napkin roll will be used as legs. Make splices along one side of the roll and spray out. Take the packaging tape and attach the roll to the bottom of the cereal box.
6. For the shoes use newspapers bunch into a ball and stuff one side loosley into the paper roll. Cover the news paper and paper roll with black electrical tape. This electrical tape allows for conformity and also helps by attaching the news paper to the the body of the pinata to form a simple shoe.
